Why First-Person-View (FPV) drones are one of the most underrated tools for marketing in real estate, sporting events, and even Hollywood, and how they changing these industries.

In this current, digital media age, we’ve all witnessed the immense impact of video on social media and the internet. Whether it’s tours of multi-million dollar houses, pranks being pulled on YouTube, debates on who’s the GOAT of basketball, or even cat videos, the vast majority of consumers in the modern world consume video of some form on various platforms.

In commercial real estate specifically, video is one of the main components brokers MUST use to sell their listings. Whether it’s capturing a new office space for lease, a new warehouse for sale, or a hotel looking to increase their occupancy and event bookings, video is a necessity.  With video, brokers can more effectively advertise the scale, scope, and features of a property, successfully marketing to the pool of buyers and other audiences that wouldn’t be possible with just a photo gallery.

However, what if there was a method that could not only allow the viewer to see the property through a quick video, but to actually immerse themselves and feel like they are walking through the space themselves without ever leaving their home?  Well, that is where First Person View (or FPV) video comes in.

FPV drones were established a little over a decade ago, originally for the purpose of racing. Micro in size, but blazing fast in speed, these drones could accelerate up to over 80 mph, with pilots navigating them through obstacle courses and racing for first place, similar to NASCAR. Drone racing is a popularized activity and profession, being broadcast on sports television, including ESPN.

Only recently in the last several years, has the birth of the FPV drone for videography commenced. People realized that the perspective of these drones would be different from the perspective of typical aerial drones used in cinematography. They offered a bird-like perspective, making the viewer feel like they’re flying, similar to Disney’s California Adventure Ride  “Soarin’ Over The World”.

Then, pushing the creativity even further, it was discovered that because of their size and safety (typically foam-padded), these drones could be flown indoors to offer a first-person perspective.  Drone Pilots were now testing a new technical skill, flying inside buildings and homes, through windows, up winding stairwells and elevators, creating one-take tours throughout the properties.

The concept and ability of easily and efficiently capturing a space in one-take, without the typical constraints of ground-based cameras (navigating stairs, soaring over tables etc.) was new and exciting to the original founders of FPV drones. It created a brand new world of possibility and potential.

FPV is still very much in its early stage and I truly believe that within 5 years, the use of FPV drones for marketing will not only be more common, but a required tool across many industries.  Those who are choosing to think outside the box and utilize this opportunity for a fresh new look and perspective, are a part of a pioneering group with a key tool putting them ahead of those who have not yet seen its potential.  However, because the usage of FPV is still very new and not yet close to being mainstream, this creates an opportunity for those that do choose to take advantage now, to become the “cool kids on the block” so to speak, and be seen by their peers as innovative and ahead of the curb.

No matter what type of real estate or business you have, now is your time to try something new and shock your audience with FPV’s guaranteed WOW-factor.  Catch the eye of your customers like never before and help your business thrive the way you know and dream it can.
